Sep 23: Tuna Tataki on Stir-fried Vegetables

We repeated our Ciabatta Baguette with Breakfast Ham and Gouda.

  • The Ciabatta is 56c per serve
  • Gouda is 34c per serve
  • The Breakfast Ham is $2.99 for six, or 50c per serve
  • Cherry Tomatoes add 35c per serve
  • Add 20c for Mustard.

A tasty sandwich for $1.95 per serve.

Dinner

Instead of a Rice Bowl, we prepared a Stir-fry of Baby Corn, Coleslaw Mix and Bean Sprouts in a very Gingery Sauce.

  • The Tuna is $2.58 per serve
  • Coleslaw Mix adds 40c per serve
  • Baby Corn was $2.29 and we used ⅓ or 38c per serve
  • Moonblushed Cherry Tomatoes add 30c per serve
  • Mung Bean Sprouts were $1.59 and we shared half, or 40c per serve
  • Add 55c for Sauce ingredients.

Other than missing a thickening agent, the sauce was very tasty. A satisfying meal for $4.61 per serve.

Sep 22: Warm Shredded Lamb on Hummus with Dolmas, Mint and Moonblushed Cherry Tomatoes

Lunch

For lunch we had Shin Ramen with a touch of Butter for $1.67 per serve.

Dinner

A return to our Warm Shredded Lamb on Hummus, tonight with Dolmas, Mint and Moonblushed Cherry Tomatoes.

  • The Lamb is $2.65 per serve
  • Dolmas from Whole Foods were $1.13 per serve
  • Add 30c for Cherry Tomatoes
  • Add 46c for Hummus.

The Dolmas worked very well with the Shredded Lamb. A very tasty meal for $4.54 per serve.

Sep 21: Pork Belly Porchetta with Roast Shallots and an Arugula, Pear and Shaved Parmesan Salad

Lunch

One more Smoked Salmon Bagel is never enough.

  • Six Bagels were $3.39, or 57c per serve
  • The Smoked Salmon pieces were $1.18 per serve
  • Add 45c for Cream Cheese
  • Add 30c for Shallot & Capers.

A great sandwich for $1.50.

Dinner

We took the remaining Pork Belly Porchetta slices and roasted them for another hour and a half, which is what we should have done in the first place. With the fat rendered it was a much more peasant and still very tasty. A great meal for $4.19 per serve.

Sep 20: Lamb Rogan Josh with Rice and Peas

Lunch

We finished a par-baked Ciabatta Baguette and heated some Breakfast Ham and Gouda in the same oven. Add some Moonblushed Cherry Tomatoes and you have a sandwich.

While it takes a long time to cook, Lamb Rogen Josh is simple to prepare: add the Lamb Shoulder meat and one jar of Kashmiri Simmer Sauce to a pot. Prepare some rice a few hours later!

  • The Kashmiri Simmer Sauce was $3.39 or $1.70 per serve
  • Brown Rice adds 34c per serve
  • Frozen Garden Peas add 30c per serve.

A simple, but quite tasty, meal for $6.54 per serve.

Dinner

After a very good Porchetta in Italy we decided to try it with a rolled Pork Belly on special at Whole Foods. We unrolled it, added fresh herbs, and then rolled and tied it again.

  • The Pork Belly was $9.58 after all discounts, or $2.40 per serve
  • Shallots add 40c per serve
  • Arugula adds 40c per serve
  • The Pear was 75c and we shared half, or 19c per serve
  • Add 80c for Shaved Parmesan.

We were cautious with our cooking time, keeping to the minimum temperature, but in hindsight, it could have used more time to render out the fat. It was a very tasty meal for $4.19 per serve.

Sep 18: Folded Eggs on Avocado Toast with Chili Onion Crisp

Brunch

Our San Diego friend took us out to brunch at a nearby cafe, where the Foodies had a very good Eggs Benedict.

Dinner

A simple “Meatless Monday” meal of Folded Eggs on Avocado Toast with Chili Onion Crisp.

  • The Bread came back with us from San Diego
  • Two Pastured Eggs are 78c per serve
  • The Avocado was 49c or 25c per serve
  • Add 30c for Chili Onion Crisp.

While simple, this is a very tasty meal for $1.33 per serve.

Sep 17: Flat Iron Steak, Air Fried Potatoes and Blacked Baby Bell Peppers

We returned to our current favorite: a Speck and Arugula Panini.

  • The Ciabatta is 58c per serve
  • Arugula adds 40c per serve
  • The Duke’s Mayonnaise adds 25c per serve.

A great sandwich for $3.23 per serve.

Dinner

The Foodies were in San Diego visiting a friend who provided an excellent Flat Iron Steak served with Air Fried Potatoes and Blackened Baby Bell Peppers. It was all very good.

Sep 16: Smoked Salmon Pizza with Arugula and Shaved Parmesan

Lunch

For lunch we had Jamaican Style Beef Patties for $2.25 per serve.

Dinner

It was time for Smoked Salmon Pizza, but this time we halved the dough and made one slightly larger Pizza that we shared, and served with an Arugula and Shaved Parmesan Salad.

  • Sockeye Smoked Salmon pieces were $5.49 or $2.25 per serve
  • The Pizza Dough was $1.49, or 38c per serve
  • We used semi-dried Cherry Tomatoes for 60c per serve
  • About two ounces of Neufchatel went on each Pizza, or 25c per serve
  • Arugula adds 45c per serve
  • Add 80c for Shaved Parmesan.

The thinner Pizza crust suited us better. Overall, this was a better fit for our appetites, for $4.73 per serve.

Sep 14: Ramen in Miso Ginger Broth with Bok Choy, Baby Corn and a Jammy Egg

We had an interesting sandwich of toasted Italian Bread smeared with Triple Cream Brie with Peppercorns and Breakfast Ham.

  • The Triple Cream Brie was $6.00 and we shared half, or $1.50 per serve
  • The Breakfast Ham is $2.99 for six, and we shared one, or 25c per serve.

A very tasty sandwich for $2.07 per serve.

We had planned to feature Smoked Pork Belly on tonight’s Ramen Bowl, but unfortunately we over-smoked it, to great disappointment.
