Oct 3: Giant Baked Beans on Toast with Fried Eggs

Lunch

Today’s Speck and Arugula Panini was enhanced with some of the Unexpected Cheddar Spread.

  • The Speck was $3.99, or $2.00 per serve
  • The Ciabatta is 58c per serve
  • Arugula adds 40c per serve
  • The Unexpected Cheddar Spread adds 62c per serve.

Unfortunately the Cheddar Spread was lost in the Panini, but otherwise still a great sandwich for $3.62 per serve.

Dinner

A simple Meatless Monday meal of toasted Italian Bread coated liberally with Garlic Spread, topped with Giant Baked Beans and finished with two Fried Eggs.

  • Italian Bread adds 38c per serve
  • Garlic Spread adds 45c per serve
  • The Giant Baked Beans are $1.99 or $1.00 per serve
  • Pastured Eggs add $1.00 per serve.

A pretty good meal for $2.83 per serve.

Oct 2: Poached Shrimp on Creamy Cauliflower Gnocchi

Lunch

For lunch we had Enchiladas from Viva La Fiesta down the road from us, for an average of $17.00 per serve.

Dinner

We sous vide Argentinean Shrimp and placed them on top of a Creamy Cauliflower Gnocchi.

  • 1 lb of shrimp was $1o.99 on sale,  or and we used half $2.75 per serve
  • The gnocchi was $2.69 or 67c per serve, although we ate so little, it’s more like 17c per serve
  • Neufchatel adds 5c per serve
  • Stock adds 15c per serve
  • Add 10c for Arugula.

The Creamy Sauce was stodgy and unpleasant. We finished less than ¼ of the Gnocchi. The Shrimp were tasty, for about $3.21 for the meal we ate.

Oct 1: “Grazing” Dinner

Lunch

We had a simple Ham, Cheese and Tomato Sandwich for lunch, on toasted bread.

  • Dave’s Killer Bread is 74c per serve
  • A slide and a half of Gouda per sandwich is 51c per serve
  • Add 50c for a Kumato each
  • The Breakfast Ham is $2.99 for six, or 50c per serve
  • Add 30c for Mustard.

Not a bad sandwich for $2.65 per serve

Dinner

We decided on a ‘Grazing’ dinner featuring Speck, Melon, Delice de Bourgogne, Duck and Port Paté, Endive, Grapes, Trader Joe’s Unexpected Cheddar, Pickled Onions and Pecans, served with a hot Baguette.

As it’s hard to calculate the price per serve accurately, I usually allocate $8.00 per serve.

Sep 30: Fried Barramundi Sandwich with Malt Vinegar Slaw and Pickles, served with Fries

Lunch

We were in the vicinity of New York Chicken and Gyro where we picked up two Lamb Gyros at $8.17 with tax and tip each.

Dinner

Something a little different for Fishy Friday – a Fried Barramundi Sandwich and Oven Fries.

  • The Barramundi is $9.99 or $5.00 per serve
  • The Brioche Buns are 58c per serve
  • Sandwich Pickles are $4.29 for the jar, but we used less than 20%, or 42c per serve
  • Coleslaw adds 46c per serve
  • The Fries were $1.49, and we shared half or 38c per serve.

The sandwich was okay. It is certainly not the best way to enjoy Barramundi. Still a decent sandwich if a little expensive at $6.84 per serve.

Sep 29: BLT Panzanella

Lunch

Once again we enjoyed a Speck and Arugula Pannini.

  • The Speck was $3.99, or $2.00 per serve
  • The Ciabatta is 58c per serve
  • Arugula adds 40c per serve
  • The Duke’s Mayonnaise adds 25c per serve.

A great sandwich for $3.23 per serve

Dinner

As we had some rather excellent Sourdough Bread that had gone stale, we decided on a BLT Panzanella.

  • The Bread was 92c per serve
  • The Bacon was on special for $3.60 and we used ⅝, or 67c per serve
  • A Kumato is 74c per serve
  • Arugula adds 40c per serve.

A very tasty, and filling, meal for $2.73 per serve.

Sep 27: Filet Américain, Baguette and Endive

Lunch

We wanted to try Trader Joe’s Unexpected Cheddar Cheese Spread on a cracker with Green Apple as an alternative Plowman’s Lunch.

  • The Rye Crispbread was $3.29 for a pack of 20, or 33c per serve
  • The Cheddar Spread was $4.99 and we used about 30%, or 83c per serve
  • Apple adds 20c per serve.

While quite tasty, the Cheddar Spread was out of balance (too little) with the rest of the ingredients. At $1.46 per serve, we preferred the traditional.

Dinner

We had a second attempt at Filet Américain with more seasoning, and served with Baguette slices and Endive. There are really three serves of the Filet Américain.

  • The Top Sirloin was $7.86, or $2.62 per serve
  • Add 20c for Capers
  • Add 20c for Shallots
  • The Endive were $2.99 and we shared one, or 50c per serve
  • The half a Baguette was $1.29 or 65c per serve.

A very tasty meal, and a strong favorite of Foodie Philip, for $4.17 per serve.

Sep 26: Lamb Loin Chops with Feta Raspberry Salad

Lunch

We mixed it up a bit today. Foodie Philip had a Kumato and Mayonnaise sandwich, while Foodie Greg had a Chip Sandwich. For both we had Sourdough Bread.

  • The Bread was $5.49 and we use about ¼ for lunch, or 69c per serve
  • The Chips and/or Kumato add 40c per serve
  • Add 20c for Mayo.

We both enjoyed our sandwiches for $1.59 per serve.

Dinner

A warm evening made grilling Lamb Loin Chops a very pleasant experience. We served with an Arugula, Feta and Raspberry Salad.

  • The Lamb Loin Chops were $11.49 or $5.75 per serve
  • Arugula adds 30c per serve
  • The Feta adds 68c per serve
  • The Raspberries were $1.49 per punnet and we used ⅔, or 50c per serve
  • Add 35c for Balsamic Vinegar.

A very tasty meal enjoyed in the waning evening light, for $7.58 per serve.

Sep 25: Folded Eggs on Avocado Toast

Lunch

As it was a month since we last had a Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, it was time for one today, for $11.85 per serve with a shared Fries.

Dinner

Because of heat predictions we swapped our Meatless Monday to today and enjoyed Folded Eggs on Avocado Toast, with either Chili Onion Crisp or Sriracha Sauce on top.

  • The Italian Bread is 32c per serve
  • Two Pastured Eggs are 78c per serve
  • The Avocado was 49c or 25c per serve
  • Add 30c for Chili Onion Crisp or Sriracha.

A very tasty meal for $1.65 per serve.

Sep 24: Sous Vide and Seared Duck on Yakisoba Noodles with Garlic Bok Choy

Lunch

Once again we enjoyed a Speck and Arugula Pannini.

  • The Speck was $3.99, or $2.00 per serve
  • The Ciabatta is 58c per serve
  • Arugula adds 40c per serve

Who wouldn’t want sous vide (and seared) Duck Breast on Yakisoba Noodles with Garlic Bok Choy.

  • The Duck was $13.08 or $6.54 per serve
  • The Bok Choy was $1.49 and we used half, or 38c per serve
  • The Yakisoba Noodles $2.99 or $1.50 per serve
  • Add 15c for Garlic.

A very tasty meal for $8.57 per serve.
