Dec 20: Sous-vide Ham, Garlic Sage Spätzle and Choucroute

Lunch

Foodie Philip’s at home lunch was a Porchetta Panini. Foodie Greg was with family.

A very tasty sandwich for $2.63 per serve.

Dinner

The Ham came direct from Aldi to sous-video bucket, to be served with Dec 20: Sous-vide Ham, Garlic Sage Spätzle and Choucroute.

  • The Ham was was $6.21 and tonight’s meal for four used about ⅓, or 42c per serve
  • Garlic Sage Spätzle was $4.49 or 90c per serve
  • The Choucroute is 78c per serve.

The Ham was perfectly juicy and flavorsome and the meal worked very well for $2.10 per serve.

Dec 19: Risotto with Bay Scallops, Lemon and Peas

Lunch

We repeated the Ciabatta with Rosemary Ham.

  • The Rosemary Ham was $3.29 and we shared it or 83c per serve
  • The Ciabatta is 58c per serve
  • Add 25c each for half a Kumato.

A tasty sandwich for $1.66 per serve.

Dinner

We cooked up a double batch of “instant” Risotto, stirred in Peas, Lemon Juice and Bay Scallops and topped it with Lemon Zest.

  • The Risotto was $4.79 or $2.40 per serve
  • The Bay Scallops were $7.19 for a pound, but we used half, or $1.80 per serve
  • Add 25c for Lemon Juice.

The Risotto was just okay, but with the Bay Scallops and the Lemon it turned it to something quite tasty, for $4.45 per serve.

Dec 18: Porchetta with an Arugula Parmesan Salad and Roasted Shallot

Lunch

We had a Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich from Skewers with Fries for for $11.85 per serve.

Dinner

Foodie Greg roasted a Bacon Wrapped prepared Porchetta that we served with Roasted Shallot and an Arugula Parmesan Salad.

  • The Porchetta was $28.07 and we will get seven serves, or $4.01 per serve
  • Arugula adds about 40c per serve
  • Parmesan adds 83c per serve
  • A Shallot adds 10c per serve.

An excellent meal for $5.34 per serve.

Dec 17: Warm Shredded Lamb Salad with Dolmas on Hummus and a Salad

Lunch

For lunch we had a Ciabatta with Rosemary Ham and Kumato.

  • The Ciabatta is 58c per serve
  • Add 25c each for half a Kumato.

A quite tasty sandwich for $1.66 per serve.

Dinner

A welcome return to the warm Shredded Lamb Salade with Dolmas on Hummus and an Arugula-Tomato Salad.

  • The Lamb was $21.01 or $2.10 per serve
  • Mint was free from our garden
  • Add 30c for Onion and seasoning
  • Arugula adds 30c per serve
  • Dolmas from Whole Foods were $1.13 per serve
  • Add 30c for Cherry Tomatoes
  • Add 46c for Hummus.

As always a very tasty meal for $4.59 per serve.

Dec 16: Seared Tuna Tataki Rice Bowl with Avocado and Japanese Coleslaw

Lunch

We heated some Bistro Mini Quiches from Aldi for $2.00 per serve. They were okay.

Dinner

A Tuna Tataki Rice Bowl definitely meats the “Fishy Friday” criteria.

  • Twelve ounces of Ahi Tuna from Aldi is $5.62, and we shared ⅔, or $1.88 per serve
  • Black Rice adds 34c per serve
  • An Avocado adds 37c per serve
  • Add 45c for Coleslaw and Dressing.

A very tasty meal for $3.04 per serve.

Dec 15: Marinated Skirt Steak from The Country Deli

Lunch

Foodie Greg picked up a Mushroom, Marscapone and Italian Cheese Pizza from Aldi for $3.99 or $2.00 per serve.

Dinner

We picked up a Marinated Skirt Steak Dinner from The Country Deli, and added three Fried Eggs for Foodie Philip and Arugula for Foodie Greg.

  • The Steak Dinner is $38.84 with tax and tip, or $19.42 per serve
  • The three Pastured Eggs are $1.14 or 57c per serve
  • The Arugula adds 30c per serve.

An excellent Steak Meal for $20.29 per serve.

Dec 14: Seared Pork Belly on Spicy Sesame Ramen with Cabbage

Lunch

We returned to our standby lunch of a Speck and Arugula Panini.

  • The Speck was $3.99, or $2.00 per serve
  • The Ciabatta is 58c per serve
  • Arugula adds 40c per serve
  • Olive Oil adds 30c per serve.

An excellent Panini for $3.28 per serve.

Dinner

Tonight we sliced the prepared Pork Belly and seared it to render fat and color the surface. We then piled that on top of Spicy Sesame Ramen Noodles (and broth) that we enhanced with a little Coleslaw Mix to add some extra vegetables.

  • The Pork Belly is $6.49 or $3.25 per serve
  • The Spicy Sesame Ramen were $2.25 per serve
  • The Coleslaw Mix adds 30c per serve.

The Spicy Sesame Ramen had a good balance of heat and flavor, while the perfectly Seared Pork Belly was the perfect protein. An excellent meal for $5.80 per serve.

Dec 11: Sous Vide Shrimp on Vegetable Fried Rice

Lunch

For lunch we finished the Tomahawk Stead as a French Dip.

  • The Tomahawk Steak was $55.83, and we used another ⅓, or $9.30 per serve
  • The Ciabatta is 58c
  • Add 70c per serve for Au Ju.

A very tasty sandwich for $10.58 per serve.

Dinner

  • The Vegetable Fried Rice was $2.99 or $1.50 per serve
  • 1 lb of shrimp was $1o.99 on sale,  or and we used half $2.75 per serve.

A tasty meal for $4.25, although we felt the Vegetable version of the Fried Rice was a little to heavy with the Edamame to be really good.
