Foodie Greg has picked up a large Pork Butt that we marinated in citrus before cooking Cuban-Style.

  • The Pork Shoulder was around $8.70 and there were four full serves, or $2.23 per serve
  • Blood Oranges were $3.83 or 96c per serve
  • Lemons came from our garden
  • Black Beans were $1.00 or 50c per serve
  • Brown Rice adds 33c per serve
  • Plantain Chips were $1.70 and we used half, or 43c per serve.

A very tasty meal, as always, for $4.45 per serve.

Jun 17: Soutzoukakia with Sweet Potato Bake

Lunch

For lunch we cooked the last of our homemade Sausage Rolls and served with a Garden Salad for $3.10 plus 40c for the Salad: $3.50 per serve.

Dinner

It’s been a while, so it was time for Soutzoukakia, which we served with a Sweet Potato Bake.

  • Australian Ground lamb was $5.99 at Aldi or $2.00 per serve
  • An egg is 32c or 11c per serve
  • 8 oz Panko breadcrumbs are $2.99 and we used half, or 25c per serve
  • Parmesan is $3.99 for 8oz and we shared 2 oz or 50c per serve
  • 1/4 cup and a tablespoon of red wine – halved – is 34c per serve
  • Parsley was $1.49 for the bunch, but we only used 1/4 or 13c per serve
  • The Murasaki Sweet Potato was $3.99 for 10, or 40c per serve
  • Onion and Garlic add 10c per serve
  • Bell Peppers add 32c per serve.

A tasty meal for $4.15 per serve.

Jun 16: Bento Box with Ahi Tuna Tataki

Lunch

We prepared a Ciabatta stuffed with Porchetta!

  • The Ciabatta Roll is 58c
  • The Porchetta is $2.00 per serve.

The bread to Porchetta ratio was wrong, but tasty for $2.58 per serve.

Dinner

After a very long break, we were able to get a Bento Box and augment it with Ahi Tuna Tataki.

  • Twelve ounces of Ahi Tuna from Aldi is $5.62, and we shared ⅔, or $1.88 per serve
  • The Bento Box was $21.00 per serve with tax and tip.

A very, very enjoyable meal for $22.88 per serve.

Jun 12: Lamb Keema on Paratha

Lunch

We had pancakes for lunch with Butter and Nutella for about 95c per serve.

Dinner

To use the remaining Lamb Keema we heated it, placed on a hot Paratha, and topped with Sour Cream.

  • A serve of the Lamb Keema is $1.79 per serve
  • The Paratha was $1.99 for five, or 40c per serve
  • Add 20c for cucumber.
  • We topped with Sour Cream for 30c per serve.

A very tasty meal for $2.69 per serve. Of the three ways we served the Lamb Keema, topping the Jacket Potato was our favorite.

Jun 11: Caramelized Pork Lettuce Wraps

Lunch

A Ham Salad sandwich on toasted bread is a good Saturday lunch.

  • Dave’s Killer Rye Bread is 76c per serve
  • The Breakfast Ham is $2.99 for six, or 50c per serve
  • Add 45c for Pickled Beetroot and Carrot
  • Add 45c for Mayonnaise.

A very tasty sandwich for $2.19 per serve.

Dinner

We’ve done the “Vietnamese” Caramelized Pork Bowls many times before, but today we served in Lettuce Wraps. We also noted that Nigella Lawson, who’s recipe this is, has dropped “Vietnamese” from the name on her site.

  • The ground pork was $5.99 and we’ll get four serves from that, or $1.50 per serve
  • Add 40c for ginger, shallot, garlic and chili, etc
  • Add 40c for Lettuce
  • Dressing ingredients add 40c per serve
  • Mint came from our garden.

Another very tasty meal for $2.80 per serve.

Jun 10: Smoked Salmon Pizza

Lunch

Lunch was Pork Chili Verde Enchiladas from Viva La Fiesta for $17.00 per serve with tax and tip.

Dinner

We were fortunate to have warm weather for our monthly Smoked Salmon Pizza.

  • Sockeye Smoked Salmon pieces were $5.49 or $2.75 per serve
  • The Pizza Dough was $1.49, or 75c per serve
  • We used semi-dried Cherry Tomatoes for 60c per serve
  • About two ounces of Neufchatel went on each Pizza, or 25c per serve
  • Preserved Lemon adds 5c per serve
  • Pickled Beets adds 15c per serve.

An excellent meal, as always, for $4.55 per serve.

Jun 9: Hot and Sour Beef Salad

Lunch

We experienced with a Ciabatta Roll in the Panini press with Delice de Bougogne and Apple.

  • The Ciabatta Roll is 58c per serve
  • The Delice de Bourgogne was $5.38 and we shared ½, or $1.35 per serve
  • The Apple adds 35c per serve.

An excellent sandwich for $2.28 per serve.

Dinner

A welcome return to an old favorite: Hot and Sour Beef Salad.

  • The NY Strip was $19.36 for two steaks, or $4.84 per serve
  • Limes were 49c for two but we shared one, or 13c per serve
  • Mint was from our garden
  • Lettuce adds 40c per serve
  • The Bell Pepper was 64c or 32c per serve
  • Instead of a Chili we used some Sweet Chili Sauce, which adds 20c per serve
  • Add 30c for Fish Sauce and other ingredients.

Why we let this one drop we don’t know. It’s a very tasty salad for $6.29 per serve.

Jun 8: Italian Inspired “Cobb” Salad

Lunch

For the first time we used our Panini press to make an actual Panini with a Ciabatta Roll, Gouda, some Greens and Hammon.

  • The Italian Deli Meat Platter (Hammon) was $5.99 and we shared ⅓ or $1.00 per serve
  • The Ciabatta Roll is 58c per serve
  • The Gouda is 34c per serve
  • Add 15c for Greens
  • Add 45c for Garlic Spread.

We learnt that a par-cooked Ciabatta Roll can be finished and toasted in one action. An excellent sandwich for $2.52 per serve.

Dinner

We’ve experimented with many variations on a Cobb Salad, and tonight’s was inspired by our recent trip to Italy.

  • The Speck was $3.99 or $2.o0 per serve
  • The Burrata was $4.99 or $2.50 per serve
  • A Pastured Egg is 38c per serve
  • An Avocado is $1.29 and we shared one, or 65c per serve
  • The Grape tomatoes cost $2.49 or 63c per serve
  • Pea Shoots where $1.99 and we used about ¼ or 25c per serve
  • Add 30c for Balsamic Glaze.

The Speck was a great foundation for a Cobb-style Salad and ate very well for $6.71 per serve.

Jun 7: Lamb Keema on Bean Sprouts

Lunch

For lunch we had a Trader Joe’s Chicken and Chimichurri for $4.29 or $2.15 per serve.

Dinner

Tonight we reheated another portion of the Lamb Keema and served on top of blanched Bean Sprouts.

  • A serve of the Lamb Keema is $1.79 per serve
  • The Bean Sprouts were $1.59 and we shared half, or 40c per serve
  • We topped with Sour Cream for 30c per serve.

When balanced the Bean Sprouts become a little more flexible and easier to manage on a fork while retaining their crunch. The freshness was delightful combined with the Lamb Keema for $2.49 per serve.
