Jun 26: Soutzoukakia in a Panini Roll; Beer Bratwurst with Blue Cheese and Pomegranate Seed Salad

The tart Pomegranate was a good balance for the salty and creamy Cheese. Probably not the perfect match for the Bratwurst, but a very flavorsome meal for $4.29 per serve.

Jun 25: Lamb Gyro; Pan Fried Rainbow Trout with Fried Capers and Caesar Salad

Since we’ve reduced our trips to Lowes and Home Depot, we drive directly to New York Chicken and Gyro, stock pick up a Lamb Gyros for $8.17 with tax and tip.

Lunch

To use the remaining Coleslaw, we repeated the Ham & Coleslaw sandwiches.

  • Dave’s Killer Bread is 74c per serve
  • Deli Ham is 66c per serve
  • The Coleslaw adds 70c per serve.

A decent sandwich for $2.10 per serve.

Dinner

Previous plans went out the door when Foodie Greg bought home ears of very fresh Corn from Whole Foods, so naturally we had to grill them and have Eloté.

  • Bell Peppers are 32c per serve
  • Black Rice adds 34c per serve
  • A Pastured Egg adds 32c per serve
  • The peanut butter was $1.99 and we used about 1/2,  or 50c a serve
  • Add 30c for Sauce ingredients
  • Coconut Milk was $1.89 for the can, and we used ⅓ or 32c per serve.

Other than the Egg seeming superfluous, and not really fitting with the flavor profile, this was a very good dish. The Peanut Sauce is a good variation from our usual, although we will likely merge the two in a future experiment. All in all a good meal for $2.63 per serve.

Jun 20: Bahn Mi & Fried Egg Rolls; Lamb Rissoles and Watermelon Salad

Lunch

The Foodies decided on a Bahn Mi from Pho Saigon 1, which we shared. We paired it with five Fried Egg Roll for $12.92 per serve, with tax and tip. We each had plenty of Bahn Mi and the Egg Rolls will be part of our standard order now.

  • Fresh mint came from our garden
  • The Watermelon Salad was left over from the party yesterday, but about $2.32 per serve.

While the photo didn’t turn out great, the Rissoles did, even with the coarser grind from Amazon Fresh. Tonight they were very herb forward, which worked well with the Watermelon Salad, for $4.92 per serve.
