Lunch

We still had Coleslaw from Mr Fish & Chips so we sandwiched it between slices of Deli Ham, in a sandwich!

• Black Forest Ham is $3.29 per pack, or 66c per serve.

Always an enjoyable sandwich, for $1.96 per serve.

Dinner

Tonight was our “Duck Night,” which we schedule about once a month, now that we have a consistent (mostly) supply of frozen Duck Breast from Whole Foods, and know how to cook it to perfection.

• The Duck was $13.59 or $6.80 per serve
• The noodles are $3.19 for the pack, or $1.60 per serve
• The Bok Choy was $2.00 and used about or 34c per serve.

As always an excellent, and somewhat affordable, treat for $8.74 per serve.

Lunch

As we had two Garlic Naan left, we finished in the oven, spread with with Neufchatel, and topped with Tomato and Parmesan.

• The Garlic Naan was $3.99 for six, and we used two, or 67c per serve
• Neufchatel adds 15c per serve
• Five Kumato were $3.49 and we used one, or 35c per serve
• Shaved parmesan comes in a $5.49 pack, and we used 1/4 or 46c per serve.

This turned out well for $1.63 per serve.

Dinner

A quick and easy ‘Fishy Friday” is where you sous vide some Argentinean Shrimp in Butter, and fry off some Trader Joe’s Japanese Fried Rice. Serve!

• Japanese Style Fried rice comes from Trader Joe’s and is $3.29 or $1.65 per very generous serve
• 1 lb of shrimp is $10.99 and we used half,  or $2.75 per serve.

Simple, tasty and filling for $4.40 per serve.

Lunch

A nearby shopping trip put us near Mr Fish & Chips. We stuck with the Fried Scallops, Fries and Coleslaw and ordered extra Coleslaw.

This is a meal for one that we shared, making it $5.19 with tax and tip.

Dinner

We continued the “sharing an entree” theme with another venture out to bring food home. We haven’t been able to enjoy the food at The Country Deli for a while, as it mostly doesn’t travel well. Great food eaten three minutes from the kitchen, not so great after 15 minutes of travel.

How food travels is a serious challenge in these times, and many restaurants are changing their menus to make them resist degrading during the trip home. Friends in San Francisco celebrated their anniversary with a finish-at-home kit prepared by a local restaurant.

We worked out a compromise: buy the Romanian Skirt Steak Dinner, substituting Home Fries for Mashed or Baked Potato. Then when we got home, fry the Eggs there and serve. We preheated our griddle so there was minimal.

Although we added the Eggs, Foodie Greg felt there was enough food without and probably won’t add them next time. The serving was enormous and more than enough food for two, for $15.62 per serve, plus $1.02 for the eggs: $16.64.

Lunch

For lunch we had a Rissole & Cheddar Panini using the last of the Rissoles.

• The Panini Roll is 63c
• Rissole is $1.02 per serve
• Smokey Cheddar was $2.69 for 10 slices, or 27c per serve
• Add 10c for Spinach
• Add 10c for Carolina BBQ Sauce.

As always a tasty combination for $2.12 per serve.

Dinner

We had some Lamb Loin Chops available, so we grilled them to perfection outside, and paired with a Smoked Eggplant, Feta, Mint and Pomegranate Salad. We’ve done the salad before but with Baked Eggplant.

• The Australian Lamb Loin Chops were a weekly special at Aldi for $7.43 or $3.72 per serve
• Mint was from our garden
• Eggplant was $1.39 or 70c per serve
• The French (Valbreso) Feta was $10.99 but we used 1/6 or 92c per serve
• Pomegranate Seeds were $4.49 and we used about half, or $1.13 per serve
• Add 30c for dressing ingredients.

The Australian Lamb Loin Chops were even better than the New Zealand ones that Trader Joe’s carry. We felt they had great taste and were more juicy. A great meal for $6.77 per serve.

Lunch

For lunch we finished both the Apple from yesterday, but also the remaining Brie from our grazing meal last Sunday.

• Add 85c per serve for Brie
• Add 40c for Garlic Spread.

We toasted until the Brie was oozing and delicious. A good sandwich for $2.16 per serve.

Dinner

One of the best uses for the Ground Beef from our meat box is to make classic Australian Rissoles.

• Dry aged 85/15 ground beef $8.57 or $2.86 per serve
• 8 oz Panko breadcrumbs are $2.99 and we used half, or 50c per serve
• A Pastured Egg is 51c or 17c per serve
• The onion is 4c per serve
• Salad Greens were $1.49 or 38c per serve
• The cherry tomatoes were $2.99 and we used half or 75c per serve
• Pickled beets in vinaigrette are $1.69, of which we used about ⅓ or 28c per serve
• We used about 1/2 of the Cheddar, or 96c per serve
• Add 10c for Carolina BBQ sauce.

The Rissoles are always a good choice on a hot day for $6.04 per serve

A simple sandwich each of Sliced Apple & Smoked Cheddar slices.

It was very tasty for $1.85 per serve.

Dinner

Tonight’s meatless meal pivoted on Soy Chorizo that we fried off as if it were Taco Seasoned Ground Beef. Add to Lettuce, Cherry Tomatoes, Cheddar and a Creamy Dressing and you have a Taco Salad. We used half the Chorizo in tonight’s Salad.

• Soy Chorizo is $2.29 or 58c per serve
• Lettuce mix adds 40c per serve
• Cherry Tomatoes add 36c per serve
• The Old Crock Smokey Cheddar was $5.95 and we used about half, or $1.50 per serve
• Greek Yoghurt and Salsa add another 40c
• An Avocado is 39c or 20c per serve.

A very tasty salad, where you would never know you weren’t eating “real” Taco meat, for $3.44 per serve.

Today we did a near-classic Bacon, Lettuce Tomato & added Avocado.

Dinner

In the “world that was” the Foodies would be in Amsterdam this week, and would be eating Filet Américain, either at Van Dobben or at home purchased from Jumbo supermarket. We are stuck at home, so we made Filet Américain for ourselves!

• The top sirloin from the Keller Crafted delivery was $12.36 or $6.18 per serve
• Add 20c for Shallot & Capers
• Add 30c per serve for Ketchup, Mayonnaise and Paprika
• Add 63c for the Panini Roll
• The Garden Salad adds 80c per serve.

We got very close to Américain from Jumbo, or as served in Horne (town) for $8.11 per serve. We’d still like to be in Amsterdam.

Lunch

Today we picked up a Bahn Mi from Pho Saigon 1, for $10.00 with tax and tip.

Dinner

Thehe Mussels were pre-cooked and the Sauce was in a jar, so it could hardly be simpler. Served with pre cooked Naan and we had a very tasty (and good looking) meal.

• The Goan Simmer Sauce was $4.99 or $2.50 per serve
• The pre-cooked Mussels were $2.29 or $1.15 per serve
• The Garlic Naan was $3.99 for six, and we used two, or 67c per serve.

A very tasty and filling meal for $4.32 per serve.

Lunch

We finished the other half of the Baguette and filled it with Baurnschweiger, Mustard & Shallots.

• The Baguette was $1.49 or 38c per serve
• The is Baunschweiger is $2.45 and we shared ⅛, or 15c per serve
• Add 15c for Mustard and Shallot.

This was a tasty and satisfying sandwich for 68c per serve.

Dinner

We’ve been enjoying the Ahi Tuna from Aldi, but it was nice to find a different way of preparing it, other than seared! The last restaurant meal the Foodies had was a Poke Bowl, so we decided to give it a try.

• 12 oz Tuna was $5.19, or $2.60 per serve
• Avocados were 39c per serve
• Black Rice adds 22c per serve
• Shelled edamame was $1.29 or 33c per serve
• Add 50c for Dressing ingredients.

This was an excellent meal for $3.44. The odd serve shape of the Aldi Tuna is not an issue when you’re chopping it.

Lunch

We shared the remaining serve of Soutzoukakia in a par-baked Baguette we finished in the oven.

• The Baguette was $1.49 or 38c per serve
• The Soutzoukakia is $5.32 or $2.66 per lunch serve.

A very tasty lunch for $3.04 per serve.

Dinner

We had some boneless Pork Loin Chops in our meat box, so we coated them in a Coffee Rub and sous vidé them to a perfect medium rare. We served with Cowboy Beans and an Apple Endive Salad.

• The Pork Chops were $13.34 or $6.67 per serve
• Cowboy Beans were $3.99 or $1.50 per serve
• Pink Lady Apple was 79c or 40c per serve
• The Belgian Endive is $2.69 or 89c per serve
• Add 40c for Coffee Rub, Apple Cider Vinegar and Oil.

The Coffee Rub meant we didn’t need to fry the chops for appearance. A very tasty and satisfying meal for $9.86 per serve.
