We used the left over cheese from last night and added Kumato to make some tasty toasted sandwiches.
The Dave’s Killer Bread is 66c per serve
Five Kumato were $3.49 and we had one each, or 70c per serve
The Cheese came free.
A decent sandwich for $1.36 per serve.
Dinner
Before Christmas we picked up a Ham from Aldi for a ridiculous 49c per pound, or under $5.00 for 10 lb of ham. Instead of baking, as we have in the past, we decided to Sous Vidé it in an experiment to see if we could make it more tender. We expect to get at least eight serves.
Tonight we served with Choucroute Garni.
Ham is 65c per serve
Carrots were $1.99 or 50c per serve
Sauerkraut was $4.99 or $1.25 per serve
Rosé was $1.00 or 25c per serve
Add 20c per serve for other ingredients.
While not a “controlled experiment” we decided the Aldi Ham was better than the Farmer John’s we’ve had in the past from Ralphs. There was a lot less water in the Aldi Ham, and it seemed to be more tender. Cooking Sous Vidé rendered the connective tissue and fat, making it much easier to break apart the Ham. All in all a good meal for $2.85 per serve.
A visit to both major homewares chains had us near New York Chicken and Gyro so we had a Lamb Gyro for $8.17 per serve with tax and tip.
Dinner
An unplanned visit from friends had us eating cheese slices and shrimp while sharing a drink. The Foodies added a server of the Sesame Crunch Salad for $1.00 per serve.
We reheated the remaining Popeye’s Chicken and served with a Sesame Crunch Salad kit.
A nine piece special was $3.40 per serve with tax
The Salad Kit is $3.99 or $1.00 per serve.
A fun lunch for $4.40 per serve.
Dinner
A ham bone had come our way, without the ham, so we made stock from it. Rather than Split Pea Soup, which is our go to with Ham Stock, we did 15 Bean Soup and added the remaining Chorizo Sausage from New Year’s Eve. We will get eight serves from this recipe.
The 15 Bean mix was $6.99 or 88c per serve
Crushed Tomatoes are $1.99 or 40c per serve
The Spinach was $1.99 and we used 1/2, or 13c per serve
Carrots were $1.99 but we only used half, or 13c per serve
As we still had some of the Shredded Lamb Salad left, we heated it and packed it in a hot Panini Roll with Tabouli.
The Panini Roll is 63c
The Tabouli was $2.69 and we used about half, or 67c per serve
The Shredded Lamb has already been accounted for.
An excellent way to finish the last of the Lamb for $1.30 per serve.
Dinner
For tonight’s Fishy Friday we wilted some Spinach in butter, and placed it on toast and left it to warm in the oven, while we scrambled eggs with Smoked Salmon.
A slice of Dave’s Killer Bread is 33c
Eggs are 51c or $1.02 per serve
The Smoked Salmon was $9.99 or $5.00 per serve
Add 30c for butter.
The Smoked Salmon permeated the Scrambled Eggs, while the spinach gave it a taste variation and the toast, a texture variation. Great meal for $6.65 per serve.
